Simple Hockey Math. Goaltending plus Penalty Killing equals a Win. The Mt Hope Huskies boys hockey team played at the Portsmouth Abbey on Tuesday night vs the visiting Johnston/North Providence Co-op. First period, Junior Ryan Cordeiro feeds the puck to Senior Austin Hogan though the neutral zone. Hogan gains the blue line and blasts a shot on goal. Sophomore Cam Rancourt collects the rebound and scores for an early Huskies 1-0 lead after one period.

In a second period that was marred by a parade to the penalty box, Senior goaltender Kyle Depoy was up to the task with help from his penalty killing teammates. In the second period alone, Depoy made 13 saves as the Huskies held off the JNP power play. Early in the second period, Huskies Senior Nic Fowler winds up and fires a cannon from the blue line. Rancourt gets to the slot, finds the rebound and puts it in for a 2-0 Huskies lead. JNP later responds with a goal and both teams go to the locker room and await a fresh sheet of ice as the Huskies lead 2-1.

In the third period, things get crazy. JNP responds to tie the score at 2-2. Minutes later the Huskies attack in the offensive zone, Hogan takes a pass from Junior Kyrik Cordeiro and shoots the puck on net. Sophomore James Marshall crashes the net, gets to the puck and scores for a 3-2 Huskies lead. With just under five minutes remaining in the contest, JNP scores to tie it at 3-3 and the game is up for grabs to the team that wants it more. With two and a half minutes to go, JNP takes a penalty and the Huskies waste no time in seizing the opportunity. Ryan Cordeiro wins the face off. Junior Jack Dolan unleashes the shot and scores for a 4-3 Huskies lead. Forty seconds later, Rancourt completes the Hat Trick and the Huskies seal a 5-3 Victory. Between the pipes, another big night for Depoy, who turns back 28 shots on goal in leading his team to victory.
