Boys Hockey earns a Wild Win in West Warwick

It was a packed house at West Warwick Civic Center on Friday night as the Mt Hope Huskies Boys Hockey team hit the road to take on the West Warwick/Exeter West Greenwich Co-op hockey team. Trailing 1-0 in the first period, Junior Ryan Cordeiro passes the puck to Junior Jack Dolan who shoots and scores to tie the game at one. Later in the period and now trailing 2-1, Cordeiro and Dolan connect again, this time while on the power play and the first period ends with the score tied at 2-2. The second period starts and the Huskies come out ready for action. Dolan passes the puck to Sophomore Cam Rancourt who buries it for a brief 3-2 Huskies lead. For the first half of the game, it was a wild, back and forth tilt as the WW/EWG co-op scores two more to take a 4-3 lead mid-way through the 2nd period. After a brief delay in the action due to a panel of glass around the rink being dislodged, the Huskies re-group and re-focus. Junior Dylan Andrade steals the puck in the neutral zone and leads a 2 on 1 break with teammate Sophomore James Marshall. Andrade makes a beautiful pass and threads the needle getting the puck to Marshall who races in alone on the WW/EWG goaltender for a breakway. Marshall rifles a wrist shot past the goaltender for a goal and evens up the score at 4-4, and the second period comes to a close. What time is it? GUT-CHECK TIME! One period of play remaining to decide the winner. The Huskies come out with their skating legs on and carry the play early in the period. Dolan steals the puck in offensive zone and finds Rancourt who scores to take a 5-4 lead. Less than a minute later, the Huskies continue the attack. Rancourt forechecks down low and finds Cordeiro in the slot. Cordeiro unloads and puts the biscuit in the basket. Huskies up 6-4. Minutes later, Rancourt collects the puck in the neutral zone, skates in and passes the puck to Dolan who earns the Hat Trick with his third goal of the night. Huskies up 7-4. Senior Huskies goaltender Kyle Depoy once again backstops the team to victory making 27 saves in a busy night's work to lead his team to victory and a 7-4 win. Go Huskies.
