Boys Hockey Headed to State Final

For the Mt Hope Huskies Boys Hockey team, it was time to play a decisive Game 3 on Tuesday night vs Woonsocket/Scituate at a packed, historic Adelard Arena in Wooonsocket. In the best 2 out of 3 format, the teams split a pair of games over the week-end and Tuesday's winner would earn a berth to the DIII State Championship. The Dog Pound was out in full force to support the team on the road. The Huskies strike early in the first period when Junior Ryan Cordeiro scores after a shot by Junior Jack Dolan takes a strange bounce and deflects in front of the net. Cordeiro pounces and puts it home for the early lead. Later in the first period, the Huskies are forced to defend a two minute 5 on 3 penalty kill. The Huskes penalty killers step up to the plate and kill both penalties in dogged fashion. In the second period, Dolan makes a hard forecheck in the offensive zone, steals the puck and threads a beautiful pass to Sophomore James Marshall who's ready, locked and loaded. Marshall rifles a blast into the Woonsocket goal for a 2-0 Huskies lead. Then it was time for Defense and Goaltending. Senior Goaltender Kyle Depoy had a huge game in goal for the Huskies, making too many saves to count. The Defensive Corps for the Huskies had a tremendous game as well. Seniors Austin Hogan & Nic Fowler, Junior Dylan Andrade and Sophomore Keegan Hanley played solid defense in front of Depoy all night long. In addition to the D-Corps, Cordeiro and Dolan have to be cited for their work on the penalty kill. Woonsocket/Scituate scores a late goal with a minute remaining, and it's time to watch the clock slowly tick away. The Huskies hang on and win 2-1. The State Championship begins this Saturday 3/11 at 2pm at Meehan Auditorium at Brown University. Be THERE. Get LOUD.
