
The Mt Hope Huskies boys ice hockey team hosted the Narragansett/Chariho co-op team on Tuesday night at the Portsmouth Abbey. It was the home opener for the Huskies, who were looking to appease the throngs of fans on-hand to cheer them on to victory.
Senior goaltender Jack Serbst played solid between the pipes, and seven different goal scorers paced the Huskies to a 10-2 victory. The Huskies established a 2-0 lead during the first period with goals by Senior Jack Dolan assisted by Senior Ryan Cordeiro, and a goal by Junior Keegan Hanley assisted by Dolan.
In the second period, the Huskies come out in full force and lay down the hammer by scoring six goals to break the game wide-open. Goal scorers included Junior Cam Rancourt and Freshman David Benevides. Also scoring were Cordeiro, Dolan and Hanley. Multiple assists in the second from multiple Huskies players. Those Huskies making unselfish passes that led to goals included Seniors Cory Burke and Quinn Baldwin-Kress, and Freshman Jared Rego. After two periods, the Huskies lead 8-0.
In the third period, after allowing two goals from their opponent, the Huskies bounce back and score two more. Baldwin-Kress and Rego each put one home to finish the scoring at 10-2.
In front of Serbst in goal, it was a solid defensive effort with multiple contributors on the blue line. Seniors Dylan Andrade and Devin Lannan, Junior Andrew Squatrito, Sophomore Evan Payne, and Freshman Tim Byrne combined with Hanley and Rancourt, limited the shots against Serbst. However, when called upon, Serbst made several key saves including a beautiful left pad save on a breakaway in the third period.
The Huskies play the back half of the Home and Home vs Narragansett/Chariho by heading to the Brad Boss Arena on the campus of URI for a 6pm start time on Saturday night. Be there. Get Loud.
